EV holiday in Sweden

Sweden is right next door, and in the south there are rapid chargers along the main roads. Further north, they are further apart.

Getting there

You can drive over the Øresund Bridge or take the ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg. From Jutland, ferries sail from Frederikshavn to Gothenburg and from Grenaa to Halmstad. Read about the crossing in ferries and bridges.

Charging networks

OKQ8 and Circle K have rapid chargers at many fuel stations. IONITY, Mer, Recharge and Tesla also have rapid chargers along the main roads. In northern Sweden chargers can be far apart, so charge when you get the chance. See more in EV charging networks in Europe.

Congestion tax and bridge tolls

If you drive into Stockholm or Gothenburg, you pay congestion tax. There are also tolls on the bridges at Motala and Sundsvall and on Skurubron near Stockholm. Cameras read the number plate, and a Danish car gets the bill from EPASS24. You can sign up with EPASS24 to see and pay your passages online.

Speed

Speed limits change a lot, so watch the signs. They are 30–70 km/h in towns, 70–100 km/h on country roads and 110–120 km/h on motorways. In winter, the limit is lower on some roads.

Winter

From 1 December to 31 March, the car must have winter tyres or studded tyres in wintry conditions. Winter tyres must have at least 3 mm of tread and the 3PMSF mark. Read also about cold and range.

On to Norway

If you are continuing to Norway, read EV holiday in Norway and Sweden and Norway.
