How to pay at EV chargers in Denmark

You can pay in several ways, and they do not always give the same price.

Ad hoc, no subscription

Ad hoc (pay-as-you-go) means you pay for a single charge without being a customer. You pay by card at the charger, scan a QR code or use the provider's app. The provider must state the ad hoc price, and that is the price Elmer shows.

Bank cards at rapid chargers

The EU regulation AFIR requires new rapid chargers of 50 kW and above, installed after 13 April 2024, to accept bank cards. Existing rapid chargers along the major European transport corridors must accept them from 2027. At older chargers you often need an app.

Charging cards and subscriptions

With a charging card or a subscription you can get a lower price per kWh in return for a monthly fee. Many charging cards also work with other providers. This is called roaming, and the price is often different. The Elmer app can factor in your own subscriptions, so you see your own price.

Good advice

Carry a bank card and one app that works in many places. That covers almost all chargers.
Check the price before you start. Some places also charge per minute.
Move the car when it is done. Many rapid chargers charge a per-minute fee if the car stays plugged in.
