Electricity

A typical electric car uses around 18 kWh per 100 km in real life. If you drive 15,000 km a year, that is about 2,700 kWh. If you charge it all at home at night at around 1.28 DKK/kWh, it costs about 3,800 DKK. If you charge it all on rapid chargers at 3.89 DKK/kWh, it costs about 10,500 DKK.

Other costs

Annual vehicle tax (ejerafgift) and insurance: depend on the car. See motorstyrelsen.dk (the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency) and ask your insurer.
Servicing: usually cheaper than for a petrol car, because fewer parts wear out.
Tyres: electric cars are heavy and wear their tyres a little more.
Depreciation: often the biggest cost in the first years.

How to save

Charge at home at night.
Only use rapid chargers when you need them, and choose by price.
A subscription can pay off if you charge a lot away from home. Do the maths first.

Your own yearly cost

The price guide calculates your yearly charging cost based on where you live, where you can charge and how much you drive. It compares home chargers, subscriptions and chargers nearby.
